Biography of Sabrina Ferilli
advertising
Sabrina Ferilli (born June 28, 1964 in Rome) is an Italian theater and movie actress mainly popular inside her homeland, where she is one of the most prevalent celebrities.
She starred in several movies and TV series since the 1980s, as well as debuting in theater plays. While her popularity stems in large part from her movie acting, theater always remained her real passion.
Upon leaving school, Sabrina first was rejected by Rome's Experimental Cinematography Centre. She subsequently took elocution lessons and meanwhile managed to win bit parts in films, striving not to become embroiled in the trash sexy films for which her voluptuous body made her an obvious choice.
Her career started when she worked in the renowned Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome and participated in the local drama circuit. She debuted in the TV movie Portami la Luna in 1986, and made her film debut the following year, in Rimini.
Her first lead part, which may be considered the role of her lifetime, was in Americano Rosso (The Red American) in 1990. It would subsequently bring about further leads. Her career was particularly propelled further by Marco Ferreri’s Diario di un Vizio (Diary of a Maniac) in 1993, which won the Critics Award at the Berlin Film Festival.
Unfortunately, she soon struggled to find good film roles and ended up appearing in second rate flicks. On Italian TV however, she became very popular, mainly due to Giorgio Capitani's hit series "Commesse" (1999).
She is well known as a decided fan of the AS Rome soccer club, one of the two rivaling urban teams (Lazio Rome being the other). She is also a member of the team’s Fan Council. (Italian soccer teams traditionally stand under a relatively large and institutionalized influence on the part of their fans.)
In 1998, she promised to publicly strip should AS Rome once become Italian soccer champion. In 2001, the team finally won and Sabrina at least partially fulfilled her promise during the official victory celebration - 'partially' referring to her decision not to strip beyond her lingerie. The Vatican’s previous criticism of her intention may well have influenced this decision.
The highest sold Italian Max calendar is the Sabrini Ferilli edition of 2001, which sold over one million copies.
She has been elected The Most Loved Woman by Italians in a poll put to fellow countrymen aged 15 - 34 years.
Despite recurring claims, she denies ever undergoing surgical breast augmentation.
